Reset your health for 2021

We all know January is a great time for a reset. I’ve been looking forward to the opportunity to get back into healthy rhythms now that the holidays are behind us. I want to share three specific ways I’m resetting this January. Maybe you’d like to join me for one, or even go for all three!

Reset Tool #1:

TV-Free January. This is my family’s third or fourth year doing this. No TV means no streaming services, no TV on our phones, no shows, period. The exceptions are a movie in the movie theater or major sporting events. Aside from that, January is a quiet month of reading, puzzles, podcasts, audiobooks, game nights, house projects, and most importantly, going to bed early! It’s remarkable how much earlier we go to bed without the allure of one more episode keeping us up.

My husband Trevor and I feel more connected at the end of our TV-free January. Even 4 days in, we are already talking more and having fun discussing The Office Ladies podcast. Kind of ironic that we’re listening to a podcast about TV while not watching TV, but it works for us!

We find that our TV-free month makes re-engaging with TV in February an intentional process. We usually start with weekends-only and pick only the really good stuff to watch. If you’ve never tried it before, join us! January has only just begun.

Reset Tool #2:

I challenged myself to exercise every single day in January. No matter how short or long the workout, the purpose is to get in the habit of moving so I can reap the mental health and physical benefits. So far, I’m doing 20-minute exercise videos, ranging from HIIT to yoga. YouTube is full of great options. If you want to give yourself the gift of 31 days of exercise, join me!

Reset Tool #3:

As the final part of my 2021 reset, I’ve chosen to do a Whole30 to recover from the carb and sugar overload that happened in 2020. This isn’t my first Whole30, and it won’t be my last, but I splurged on something this time around that is making it more fun and motivational. It’s called the Whole30 journal. It includes tips and quotes from the creator, plus journaling prompts. Whole30 is a challenging reset, but a week in, I start to feel amazing. Quarantine is a great time to try Whole30 since we are socializing and eating out less. Whether it’s your first and your fifth, try the journal and let me know what you think.

So there you have it. My 3 resets. You can’t go wrong with any of them; and together, they provide a giant reset going into a new year. Here’s to a healthy, safe, and peaceful 2021!

Cheers,

Coach Sylvia
